Recipe
You can find the recipe in French here (Note, I made minor changes to it).
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cup bouillon
- 4 small yellow onions
- 1 leaf bay leaf
- 3/4 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/2 ounce butter (15g)
- 1/4 ounce All purpose flour (5g)
- 4 small slices bread (I used wheat toasts)
- Shredded Cheese (enough to sprinkle on bread)
- salt (as needed)
- pepper (as needed)
Servings: people
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to broil.
- Chop the onions. Melt the chopped onions with the butter in a pot, on low heat for 15 minutes, stirring from time to time.
- In a separate pot, warm up the bouillon.
- Once the onions are melted (i.e. they are soft), sprinkle the flour and minced garlic over the onions. When the flour changes color, add the hot bouillon and the bay leaf. Cook all ingredients for 15 minutes on medium-low heat. Season with salt and pepper.
- About 2 minutes before the soup is ready, sprinkle the bread with shredded cheese, and put it in the oven on broil for 1–2 minutes.
- Add the bread with melted cheese on top of the French onion soup. Enjoy warm.
