Langues de chat are French cookies that resemble the tongue of a cat. Hence the name “langues de chat”, which means “cat tongues” in French. These cookies are flat and crispy, with a light vanilla flavor. They go extremely well with coffee or tea. And they are very easy to make! In only 10 minutes, you will have delicious cookies to enjoy with your coffee!
Recipe
My recipe was inspired by this French recipe (note: my recipe is slightly different).
It is helpful (but not mandatory) to have a dessert decorator or decorating kit for this recipe.
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 2 oz. granulated sugar
- 2 oz. all purpose flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 egg whites (from 2 medium eggs)
Servings: cookies
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Soften the butter and cream it. You can use a whisk to do this.
- Add the sugar, flour, and vanilla extract to the butter. Mix. Add the egg whites. Mix really well.
- Place parchment paper on a baking sheet. Fill your dessert decorator with your mixture.
- With the decorator (or a knife if you don’t have one), make small narrow rectangular shapes, which will become your cookies. See picture.
- Bake in oven for 7 to 8 minutes (It is ready when the edges turn brown). Let it cool down. Enjoy cold.
