Pommes au four (French for baked apples) come in so many different flavors. My favorite recipe is simple, but absolutely scrumptious: baked apples in a light caramel sauce. It requires few ingredients, is easy to make, and totally delicious! An easy dessert for the whole family to enjoy!
Pommes au Four Recipe
Recipe in French here. (Please note, I made some minor adjustments to it.)
Ingredients
- 3 apples (I used honeycrisp apples)
- 1/8 cup butter (25g)
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon light cream
Servings: people
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Rinse the apples. Remove the core of the apples, and place the apples standing up in a buttered baking dish. With a knife, make 4 small incisions in the apple’s skin at the top of the apples (so the skin won’t burst in the oven). Put a cube of butter in the empty space where the core once was, in each apple. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar over each apple.
- Bake in oven for 60 minutes. About half way through, check to see if there is enough caramelized sauce forming. If not the case, add butter in the baking dish. Pour some of the caramelized sauce on the apples, and continue baking.
- Take the apples out of the dish, and place them on individual plates. Add one tablespoon of light cream to the caramel sauce in the baking dish. Mix. Pour some sauce on top of each apple. Enjoy warm.
